This Cheeseburger Salad with Thousand Island Sauce is for when you feel like you want a burger, but you don’t want to feel like a burger after.
Okay so for starters this cheeseburger salad with thousand island sauce is delicious. But it kinda has a ridiculous back story. So back when I was doing Whole30, this was such a great option for me. I could make a salad for me and then Bay could just flop a bun on his burger. Wa-la no complainey from him and I wasn’t breaking any rules. But then it like morphed into this thing….
Baylen constantly had to say “Burger Salad” at like random times of the day. I don’t know why, he just did. It was like he was possessed by a burger salad ghost. Then while we were talking about our made-up future children one day I said, I really want everyone to have a “B” name. He’s like I know the PERFECT name. BURGER SALAD BRICE. And I swear, it’s like still a thing to this day. He won’t stop talking about Burger Salad Brice, so you heard it here folks- that is our first future child’s name. Just kidding, I would die. Anyways after the millionth time of him teasing me about burger salads, I made this BOMB Cheeseburger Salad with thousand island sauce and I’m just going to say this, If you want to name your future child cheeseburger salad… burger salad… I won’t judge you…
I love that this recipe is totally customizable!
So this cheeseburger salad is really a recipe where you can do no wrong friends! I’m a sucker for like a traditional burger. My toppings are tomatoes, avocado, pickles, red onion, and for the base I used a mixture of butter lettuce and herby greens. SO FREAKIN GOOD.
Now the thousand island sauce is what seals the deal for this salad. Want a gross fun fact about me? I love anything smothered in mayo. I know some of you may be thoroughly disgusted with me, but I can’t help it. So basically this thousand island sauce is like a copy cat animal sauce from “In and Out”. You may find yourself dunking this stuff on everything…. and you should!
Anyways, this cheeseburger salad is perfect for a weeknight meal when you want flavor without feeling like you totally trashed the healthy eating, I hope you guys enjoy!

Cheeseburger Salad with Thousand Island Sauce
This Cheeseburger Salad with Thousand Island Sauce is exactly what you need when your in the mood for a burger without the guilt! Done in 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- Salad:
- 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
- 10-12 Cherry Tomatoes, sliced
- 1/2 Red Onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup Sliced Bread and Butter Pickles (sub dill if desired)
- 1 Avocado, sliced
- 1/4 cup Cheddar Cheese (omit if paleo/whole30)
- Thousand Island Sauce:
- 1/2 cup of Mayo
- 3 tbsp Ketchup
- 2 tbsp Bread and Butter Pickles, diced
- 1 tbsp Bread and Butter Pickle Juice
- 1 tsp Coconut Aminos or Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Boston Lettuce head, chopped
- 4 cups of Herb Salad Mix (or greens of choice)
Instructions
Thousand Island Sauce:
Combine all sauce ingredients in small bowl and mix together until evenly distributed. I like mine a little runny so if you need to add water do so a table spoon at a time untill you reach desired consistency.
Salad:
In a skillet on medium heat, add ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder and start to break apart while cooking into larger chunks. If you prefer more of a ground texture do so, but I like it to look like "broken burger" patties. Once cooked, drain the liquid from the meat and set aside.
Assemble :
Add chopped boston lettuce and salad mix into a bowl and toss together to combine. Distribute mixed greens to 4 plates and top with sliced cherry tomatoes, sliced red onion, sliced avocado, pickles, and cheese if desired. Drizzle dressing over the top of your salad!
